Knit a Baby Surprise Jacket
The Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman is a fun puzzle for knitters. Learn how to knit and finish this fascinating sweater that has delighted knitters for decades. Students must have a firm knowledge of cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. |
Associate Tuition: $50
Non-associate Tuition: $55
Materials: $3 for the pattern. Bring to class 300 – 500 yards of dk or worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles. Size of the sweater is determined by gauge. A worsted weight yarn at 5 sts/inch will make a sweater with a chest circumference of 18 inches (size: 12 months). A dk weight yarn at 6 sts/inch will make a sweater with chest circumference of 16.5” (size: 6 months). Bring to class 300 – 500 yards of dk or worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles. Yarn can be in as many colors as the knitter chooses as long as the gauge remains the same. This is a perfect project for scrap yarn.
To choose needle size. Knit swatches in garter stitch (knit every row) and choose the size that gives you fabric that you like the feel of. Don’t forget to block the swatch before you make your final decision.
To complete the sweater students will also need to purchase 5 small buttons, but I recommend waiting to do this until knitting is almost complete.
